Side hustles are increasingly popular among Americans looking to supplement their 9-5 incomes to keep up with record-high cost of living. Thirty-nine percent of U.S. adults have a side hustle, and 33% of them say they need the extra cash to cover everyday expenses, according to a recent Bankrate survey.

"Side hustles have become more common, but like so many things in this inflationary environment, people are working harder but not necessarily getting ahead," Ted Rossman, Bankrate senior industry analyst, said, noting that, by and large, these side gigs are "essential" rather than "passion projects."

And with only so many hours in a day, people searching for additional income streams would do well to consider the side hustles that can earn them the most money in the least amount of time.

Fortunately, online lender NetCredit just made that research a little bit easier with its compilation of the best-paid side hustles in the U.S., determined by an analysis of 81,753 publicly available job ads on Fiverr, to find the highest-earning side hustles with one-day turnarounds.

The data revealed that design roles, spanning digital, industrial and graphic design, make up half of the top-paying side hustles in the U.S. for a single day of work and that freelance marketing jobs with a 24-hour turnaround, which pay an average of $178.08 — the most of any side hustle nationwide — claim the top spot.
