Here Comes Another Smartwatch. This One's From Google. The wearable tech market is about to get a little more crowded.

All the big tech companies are fighting over new prime real estate: your wrist. It appears that Google is the latest player to be developing -- yes, you guessed it -- a smartwatch.

Reports of the smartwatch project are leaking out this week from the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain. LG is said to be a manufacturing partner. Google and LG have partnered previously on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones. The smartwatch would presumably run Google's Android operating system.

Whether Google would formally announce the project sometime this month or perhaps in June at the Google I/O developer event in June is unclear. A Google spokesperson declined to comment to the Wall Street Journal. LG did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Entrepreneur.com.

Google would be joining a growing list of tech companies that have smartwatch projects, including Samsung, Sony and Pebble, among others. Apple is also rumored to be working on a smartwatch concept.

Although Samsung's first-generation "Gear" smartwatch runs Android, the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will be powered instead by Tizen, a an open source, Linux-based operating system being developed by Samsung and Intel.
