2018 was a year to be remembered for the Indian startup ecosystem. Here's are top 4 startup news of the year:

1. India witnessed a dramatic rise of unicorns in 2018. 8 Indian startups (Oyo Rooms, Zomato and Swiggy, Udaan, Byju's, Paytm Mall, Freshworks and Policybazaar) joined the billion-dollar valuation club this year, taking the Indian unicorn statistics to 18.

2. Flipkart's $16 billion acquisition by Walmart was talk of the town but the eventual exit of both the co-founders made more headlines. While Sachin decided to exchange his shares for $1 billion, Binny Bansal resigned over allegations of personal misconduct.

3. Indian start-ups were seen eyeing the international market throughout the year. While ride-hailing unicorn Ola plans to reach 50 global cities by 2019, Oyo successfully expanded to China, UK and MAE in 2018.

4. Gujarat is the leader in developing start-up ecosystem for budding entrepreneurs. The state has been a top performer in creating start-up policy, incubation hubs and scaling innovation throughout the year.
